CABLING

  1. -cabling is the medium through which information usually moves from one network device to another.
  2. -there are 3 types of cables :  

coaxial cable



  1. -originally develop to carry large number of high speed video transmission at one time.
  2. -shield of braided wire to block electromagnet signals from entering the cables.
  3. -used in telephones transmission outside home and cable for television delivery.
  4. -more expensive than twisted pair but less susceptible to interference.
  5. -can carry more data quickly.
  6. -coaxial cable has a single copper conductor at its center
  7. -a plastic layer provides insulation between the center conductor and a braided metal shield.
  8. -the metal shield helps to block any outside interference from fluorescent lights, motors and other computers.  



fiber optic cable


  1. -consists of a center glass core surrounded by several layers of protective materials.
  2. -able to transmit signals over much longer distances than coaxial and twisted pair.
  3. -transfer data represented by light pulses (billions of bit per second)
  4. -each strand : carry data for several televisions stations or thousands of voices and only send data in one direction.
  5. -example : Unifi
  6. -transmit light rather than electronic signals eliminating the problem of electrical interference
  7. -ideal for certain environments that contain a large amount of electrical interference 



unshielded twisted pair (UTP)


  1. -has 4 pairs of wires inside the jacket
  2. -each pair is twisted with a different number of twist per inch to help eliminate interference from adjacent pairs and other electrical devices.
  3. -disadvantage : may be susceptible to radio and electrical frequency interference. 


shielded twisted pair (STP)


  1. -Two individual wires wrap in a foil shielding
  2. -shielding to help provide a more reliable data communication
  3. -suitable for environment with electrical interference
  4. -disadvantage : extra shielding cause bulky




what are these cable's connectors?😕😕😕

coaxial cable connector

-the most common type of connector used with coaxial cable is the Bayonet Neill Concelman (BNC) connector.
-different type of adapter are available for BNC connectors including a T-connector, barrel connector, and terminator.






fiber optic cable connector

-the most common type of connector used with fiber optic cable is the ST & SC connectors.






UTP Cable connector

-the standard connectors for unshielded twisted pair cabling is an RJ-45 connector (Registered Jack)
-look like a large telephone style connector
-a slow allows RJ45 to be inserted only one way.









HARDWARE

Networking hardware includes all computers. peripherals, interface cards and other equipment needed to perform data processing and communications within the network.

REFLECTION

based on this topic, i think that i will know how to differentiate the type of cables which have their own advantages. the cables have their own size and usage. i also learned about network hardware that are used to perform data processing. before this, i just know router but after learning this topic,  i started to know repeater, token ring card and etc.
